WELCOME TO WORSHIP  By this time in January, Christmas is a distant memory for many people. Forgotten already are the music, the nostalgia, the gatherings, and the gifts. But in Luke’s Gospel today we see a lingering memory of Christmas. We see the Word made flesh being revealed as the Son of God. At Christmas Jesus the infant was revealed as the Son of God by angels to shepherds and by a star to magi. Now we see Jesus the adult revealed as the Son of God through miracles of healing and the manifestation of the Gospel. Though Christmas may be a distant memory for some, it is a present reality for the Christian.

THE LORD’S SUPPER is celebrated at this congregation in the confession and glad confidence that, as he says, our Lord gives into our mouths not only bread and wine but his very body and blood to eat and drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our union with him and with one another. Our Lord invites to his table those who trust his words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to forgive and love as he forgives and loves us, that they may show forth his death until he comes.
Because those who eat and drink our Lord’s body and blood unworthily do so to their great harm, and because Holy Communion is a confession of faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of this congregation, and yet desire to receive the sacrament, are asked first to speak with the pastor or an usher.
      For further study, see Matt. 5:23f.; 10:32f.; 18:15–35; 26:26–29; 1 Cor. 11:17–34.
What a good and gracious God and Savior we have to have prepared such a feast for us! May He grant that we weary sinners may never be guilty of despising this sacrament, but receive it frequently with blessing!

HANDS AND FEET OF JESUS -  Here are some simple ways we can be the Hands and Feet of Jesus here in our community:

Take a tag or 2 from the Giving Tree downstairs and bring back the items for Love Inc.
-       Save the empty wrappers of Mars candy i.e.: Skittles, Starburst, M&M, Snickers, etc (all sizes)
-       Save the empty bags of Frito-Lay chips (all sizes)
-       Save the empty Capri-Sun juice pouches
Instead of these items going into the land fill we can send then to Terracycle and get .02 cents per item.
The money from the candy wrappers and chip bags will go to Love Inc and the money from the juice pouches will go to Waller school. There will be a bin in the Fellowship hall for these items.  Any questions call Sarah Burris 763-5967.     Thank you for you generosity and help in taking care of others.

Haiti Earthquake Relief

Our hearts ache for those who have endured this devastation. You can help in the relief efforts.  This weekend and next we will take a door offering for LCMS Haiti World Relief and Human Care. Here are the ways you might consider contributing.

1)            LCMS World Relief and Human Care.   Mark your offerings “Haiti” and place in the     church offering or give online by following the links at www.oslb.org.

2)            Lutheran Church Charities.  Donate money and goods for rebuilding. See         http://www.lutheranchurchcharities.org/

3)           Thrivent Financial members invited to join in $3 million Helping Haiti effort. Thrivent    Financial for Lutherans members who want to make a financial contribution to support              disaster response efforts in Haiti can have their donations to LCMS World Relief/Human        Care multiplied by the fraternal benefit society.
To participate, visit www.thrivent.com/helpinghaiti and make a contribution.
Thrivent Financial will add $1 to every $2 its members donate, up to a total Thrivent Financial contribution of $1 million. That means a potential of $3 million or more to support relief efforts: $2 million + from its members and $1 million added by Thrivent Financial.

If you would like to mail a check rather than give online please call 800-236-3736 for the mailing address. When promoted, say “directory” and enter ext. 83003.

4)           Go to Haiti.   Lend a helping hand. The Synod is working with partner ministries to facilitate a future volunteer effort by collecting the names of people who want to help with what will be a massive recovery and rebuilding effort after the January 12 earthquake that has killed thousands. If you are interested in volunteering in Haiti, please complete the volunteer form at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/63M2DPH
